Stoneware mug with white Zirconium Silicate glaze.
This mug is embossed when the clay is cheese hard, using a wooden tool I’ve carved out of oak. Once the glaze is fired over the embossing it highlights the iron rich tone of the clay beneath. As the embossing is carried out on the soft clay you get the sense that the material was malleable whilst the tool was being pushed into the surface, buts its now fired to a hard stoneware finish.
